Report: Shane Strickland Signing with AEW

All Elite Wrestling is reportedly bringing in yet another big name free agent.

Sean Ross Sapp of fightful select has reported that former NXT superstar, Shane “Swerve” Strickland is signing with AEW. Strickland was released by WWE in 2021 as apart of one of their many “budget cut” releases.

Since his release Strickland has been relatively quiet on the indie scene as he has only wrestled two matches. One being in NJPW and the other in Progress Wrestling. Strickland signing with AEW gives him many new opportunities to shine as there have reportedly even been talks about him being a crossover star.

He is already scheduled for dates with both GCW and NJPW which are both companies that have previously worked with AEW. We are still waiting on finding out what Tonym Khan’s “massive” announcement is. With the signing of Strickland a crossover show/event is very possible now.

Whether it’s NJPW, GCW, or even ROH a crossover show/event would be huge for the wrestling business and is definitely something Khan could pull off. With the rumors of ROH Champion, Jonathan Gresham being backstage for tonight’s AEW Dynamite it is almost inevitable that we will be seeing some form of different companies coming together for an event.
