The February 28th edition of Monday Night Raw saw Finn Balor become the new WWE United States Champion after defeating Damian Priest. Although his booking over the years might not reflect it, Balor has racked up quite the list of accomplishments in WWE. He’s a 2x NXT Champion, 2x Intercontinental Champion, 1x Universal Champion, and now he’s the current United States champion for the first time in his career.
After being moved to the Raw brand in the draft multiple outlets reported that Balor was seen as a consistent veteran who can help put young guys over. However it seems things might have changed with him likely heading into WrestleMania as United States Champion.
Damian Priest was successful in his first run with United States championship holding it for a total of 191 days during his first reign. However his run was hindered from being great with ridiculous gimmicks and unnecessary DQ finishes towards the back end of his reign. After losing the match to Balor we finally witnessed Priest turn heel setting up another match between the two down the line. The question is when and where will that match take place?
Priest turning heel has opened up a number of options for the United States title at WrestleMania. One can assume that weeks of attacks from Damian Priest will lead to Balor bringing back his demon persona to defeat Priest at the grandest stage of them all. The demon hasn’t been seen since the turnbuckle collapsed under him leading to Roman Reigns retaining his Universal Championship at the Extreme Rules PPV back in September.
The WrestleMania 38 card is in need of a huge spark with WWE struggling to sell tickets for the event. Maybe the Demon Finn Balor could help provide that.
