In October Conor McGregor lost a huge fight to Khabib Nurmagomedov. It has been up in the air when McGregor will fight again and who he will fight. Dana White came out saying he will be fighting at the beginning of 2020, and Coach Kavanaugh believes Mcgregor will fight by the end of this year. One of the biggest fights of the year is coming up at UFC 242 which is Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Dustin Poirier. Per UFC President Dana white, McGregor is not going to be fighting the winner of this lightweight title bout. This means when McGregor comes back he will have to earn a title fight and as much of a McGregor fan that I am, this is true. He does not deserve a title fight right when he comes back, it needs to be earned. If McGregor decides to return to the octagon in 2019, a possible fight for him could be against the number two ranked lightweight fighter, Tony Ferguson. A fight against Ferguson would be perfect and would be a great way to rearrange the 155-pound title picture. Making this fight would be very easy as Ferguson has called out McGregor before and has expressed his interest in this fight. Another route the UFC could take is revisiting a fight between Donald Cerrone and McGregor. For a long time this was rumored to be McGregor’s return fight, but things I guess just fell through and Cerrone ended up fighting and losing to Ferguson at UFC 238. This fight would be a huge draw for the UFC as Cerrone is a fan favorite UFC legend and McGregor is arguably the most popular and talked about UFC fighter of all time. In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, White said ” You wouldn’t want to see him doing something just for the sake of it and maybe getting hurt or whatever because he’s not fully there. But now he absolutely is.” I completely agree with White. When McGregor returns, that fight needs to mean something instead of just sticking him in the ring with some random.
