DC MAKING A COMEBACK?
Article written by Dylan Devine (2/1/21)
The DCEU has been nowhere near as successful as Marvel’s MCU over the last decade. Justice League (2017), Suicide Squad (2016), and Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice (2016) are all films that are looked down upon by DC and comic book fans alike. DC has put out less than five good movies compared to all of the ones marvel has put out over the last decade. Joker (2019) was their most successful film grossing $1.74 billion in the box office. I think it is almost time that the hate on DC stops. There are so many upcoming projects slated to release over the next few years that have so much potential to be great. It’s time for the DCEU to make a comeback.
Today I will discuss some of the upcoming DCEU projects that lead me to believe DC will be making a comeback.
Justice League Snyder Cut (March 18th, 2021)
The Snyder cut is something DC fans have asked for since 2017. We are finally getting it in a few weeks and the excitement around this film is huge. The Snyder cut IMO is going to make up for the joke of a film that Justice League was in 2017. It has so much potential to be great and I don’t think it will disappoint.
The Suicide Squad (August 6th, 2021)
The original Suicide Squad movie that released in 2016 had so much potential, but it bombed. It was a terrible movie that had bad writing, a plot that was all over the place, and had awful character development. I’m very confident that with James Gunn in the directors chair, The Suicide Squad will be similar to the Snyder cut and will make up for the failure that the original Suicide Squad was. Gunn knows how to handle an ensemble of heroes/anti-heroes as he directed the hit MCU film, Guardians of the Galaxy. I am really looking forward to seeing how Gunn continues to tell the story of the Suicide Squad and how he will introduce all of the new characters we have seen.
The Batman ( March 4th, 2022)
As a huge Batman fan, man oh man am I excited for this film. This movie has a star studded cast with the likes of Zoe Kravitz (Catwoman), Collin Farrell (The Penguin), Andy Serkis (Alfred), John Turturro (Carmine Falcone) and many more. Robert Pattinson looks great as Batman. Matt Reeves is in the directors chair for this one. The Batman will show a much younger and different version of Batman compared to past portrayals. It is rumored to be set in Bruce Wayne’s second year as the caped crusader. It also will be giving a better and more in depth look at the detective side of Batman which is very exciting. All Batman movies have always done well in the box office and with fans, so expect this one to be a hit.
The Flash (November 4th, 2022)
Flash is one of the most beloved DC characters and he finally will be getting his own film. Ezra Miller will be reprising his role as Flash, and Andy Muschietti is set to direct. We have seen plenty of rumors come out about this film. It sounds like we will be seeing the multiverse open in this film with Flash doing a lot of time traveling to try and save his mother from dying. It is rumored that MICHAEL KEATON (Batman 1989) will be donning the Batman suit once again in this movie, and Ben Affleck will also be reprising his role as the Bat.
