In 2015 it was announced that Colin Trevorrow would be directing Star Wars Episode IX set to be released in 2019. In late 2017 it was announced from Lucasfilm that Trevorrow was stepping down as the director. Lucasfilm stated that it was due to “differences in vision”. We all pretty much knew what that meant. Disney was likely restricting and shutting down Trevorrow’s different and unique visions/ideas for the film which led to him just not wanting to be apart of the project anymore. In February of 2020, Trevorrow’s script for his version of episode nine was leaked. The working title for the film was “Duel of the Fates” which I believe would have been a perfect name for the last installment of the Skywalker saga. Concept art for the film was also leaked. I will leave links to all of the concept art at the bottom of this page.

After reading the full script for Duel of the Fates and seeing all the concept art, I was very disappointed. Disappointed that we missed out on this version of episode IX. I loved the script and how different it was from the other movies in the sequel trilogy. There is so much cool things we would have seen in Trevorrow’s version and from what I read, I think it would have ultimately become one of my favorite Star Wars films. I am the type of fan who loves to see new and different things in the Star Wars universe. Duel of the Fates would have been exactly that. I didn’t love The Rise of Skywalker, but I also didn’t hate it. I believe that the problem with it is that it just focused too much on trying to fix the mistakes of The Last Jedi and that effected the story and plot. Below I am going to provide some of the cool things we would have seen had Trevorrow not stepped down as director.

Rey, Finn, and Poe steal a Star Destroyer

Kylo Ren gets a new mask

Rey has her own new double bladed lightsaber

Knights of Ren have a more prominent role, also have the Darksaber

Kylo Ren trains and then kills Tor Valum

Finn leads a stormtrooper uprising on CORUSCANT

Kylo Ren tells Rey he killed her parents

Rey begins a new Jedi Academy

We definitely missed out on this version of episode IX. There are so many what if scenarios in Star Wars, and this is a big one. I hope you enjoyed this quick article on Colin Trevorrow’s version of episode IX. May the force be with you!
