Dynamite Recap (8/25/21)

Orange Cassidy vs. Matt Hardy

It is so awesome to see how over Cassidy still is. One of the most fun guys to watch in AEW. Also awesome to see Hardy still kickin it in 2021 and he hasn’t missed a step. Hardy was in control for a majority of the match, then Cassidy gained some momentum with a suicide dive, a cross body, and a thunderous DDT. Cassidy capitalized off of his momentum and defeated Hardy with a rollup while having his hands in his pockets. All of Cassidy’s matches are fun to watch and this one wasn’t any different.

Chris Jericho discusses his future

Jericho came out to a great crowd reaction as usual with the crowd singing “Judas”. He discusses how tapping out to MJF has affected him over the past two weeks. He gives MJF a proposal of one more match “one final fight” at All Out in Chicago. He says if he can’t beat MJF, he will never wrestle in AEW again. MJF comes out and accepts the challenge from Jericho. We’ve got another exciting match to look forward to on an already stacked All Out card.

The Lucha Bros vs. Varsity Blonds

What a fun match this was. Four phenomenal in ring performers with the Lucha Bros being one of the most over tag teams in AEW. I’m loving this tag team tournament, the stakes feel very high and each team wants to win as bad as the other. Having the Lucha Bros go over and advance was the right decision. The spot after the match with Jungle Boy and Fenix executing a suicide dive together on to the Young Bucks was fantastic.

Red Velvet vs. Jamie Hayter

Despite her recent loss to Britt Baker, Red Velvet has stayed red hot over the past few weeks. Going into this match she was 9-1 in singles competition. Taking the L to Hayter was smart booking though. Having Britt Baker have someone by her side who looks tough and like a force to be reckoned with is great for Baker. Overall was a good match though. Had a bunch of cool spots and the finish made Hayter look like a threat with a killer clothesline.

CM Punk’s first Dynamite appearance

Punk came out to a huge reaction yet again. He gives one hell of a promo talking about why he came back and why he wanted Darby Allin. This is going to be a FANTASTIC match and I can’t wait to see Punk wrestle again.

Jon Moxley, Eddie Kingston, and Darby Allin vs. The Wingmen

If I’m being completely honest, I had no clue who The Wingmen were before this match. Moxley, Eddie, and Darby were REALLY over with the crowd and put on a solid match with what they were given.

Kenny Omega and Christian Cage segment

Quick solid segment and promos from both Cage and Omega. “Elite hunter” Frankie Kazarian comes out to save Cage. Nothing special.

The Gunn Club vs. The Factory

Seeing Billy Gunn wrestle in 2021 still feels weird to me. He can still go though and it is awesome. His two sons are great in ring workers and did very well in this match, they could have a real future ahead of them in AEW’s tag division. Gunn Club got the distraction finish win. QT Marshall vs. Paul Wight at All Out should be interesting.

Malakai Black vs. Brock Anderson

As expected, Black beat the HELL out of Brock. Then kicked Arn’s head off after the match. Black is very over with the crowd and is thriving. It’s great to see.
