Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers finished dead last in the eastern conference in the 2019-20 season. They did add center Andre Drummond who is the best rebounder in the league, but that’s really the only positive thing that came out of last season. They really need an upgrade at pretty much every position other then center and maybe point guard. They’ve got two young guys who have a lot of potential in Colin Sexton and Darius Garland, but I don’t think they can lead the team to the playoffs. They’ve got Cedi Osman at SF. I don’t need to say much about that. Then they’ve got Kevin Love at the four position, Love is solid and always has been but is definitely declining. It seems like every season for the past few years the Cavs have tried to trade him. I honestly can’t even tell you who is coming off Cleveland’s bench other then Larry Nance Jr. and Kevin Porter Jr. I think that speaks for itself, they need to upgrade their bench as well and maybe add some veterans.

Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks went 20-47 in the 2019-20 season and the real story of their season was the breakout year Trae Young had. He finished fourth in the league for PPG averaging 29.6, and second in the league for APG averaging 9.2. The acquisition of Clint Capela in that deal with Houston helped them out as he averaged a double double with 13.9 PPG and 13.8 PPG. In his third season John Collins played surprisingly well. Yet another guy who averaged a double double with 21.6 PPG and 10.1 RPG. I wouldn’t say Atlanta needs too many upgrades because they’ve got a great group of young guys both on the bench and starting lineup but there are definitely some minor needs.

Detroit Pistons

The Pistons went 20-46 last season and traded arguably their best player in Andre Drummond. I’m going to keep this one short and sweet. Detroit needs upgrades pretty much all around. They’re two best players are Blake Griffin and 31 year old Derrick Rose. If they want to have any chance at being any good they need to make some serious moves this offseason.

New York Knicks

The Knicks have some talented guys, they really do. They’ve got RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson, and Kevin Knox as their best players IMO. But they just can’t seem to win games and it has been like that for years. Years and years of disappointment for Knicks fans. They have a pretty weak bench and having no true star player hurts them. I doubt they will make any big moves this offseason and I think we’ll have to wait till the 2021 offseason to see the Knicks make a big move, but you never know in this league.

Chicago Bulls

Chicago has four really good guys in their starting five. The only weak position is really SF with Otto Porter Jr being the starter. 2020 rookie Coby White at PG, Zach Lavine who had a huge 2019-20 season averaging 25.5 PPG at SG, Lauri Markkanen at PF, and Wendell Carter Jr at the five. They’ve got all the potential in the world with those four players IMO, they really just need a good coach and a better bench.

Charlotte Hornets

Tough 2019-20 season for the Hornets. Lost the best player in the franchises history in Kemba Walker last offseason and attempted to replace him with Terry Rozier. They gave him quite the contract which did not really pay off for the Hornets as he had a mediocre season. Devonte Graham and Miles Bridges have potential for sure, but the rest of their lineup really is just mediocre. Upgrades needed all around.

Washington Wizards

Quite the interesting season for Washington. They didn’t have their star PG John Wall all season due to injury, but SG Bradley Beal had a crazy season. He was SECOND in the league for PPG averaging 30.5 per game. Other then Beal’s historic season, there is not much else to be said about the Wizards 2019-20 season. With Wall coming back and Beal coming off the best season of his career, they will be one of the best duos in the NBA without a doubt. Other then the two of them, Washington really needs to make some improvements to their roster. Rui Hachimura had a solid rookie season averaging 13.5 PPG and 6.1 RPG, and then they’ve got David Bertans who is a great three point shooter averaging 43.4% from behind the arc.

I honestly don’t have much to say about the Magic. They’re a solid team that IMO are just a few pieces away from being contenders.

Brooklyn Nets

The Nets didn’t have the best 2019-20 season due to injuries and missing KD all season, but with everyone hopefully healthy next season they’ll be set. I definitely consider them championship contenders.

Philadelphia 76ers

I don’t even know where to start with this team. Every season basically since Ben Simmons got drafted this team has been hyped up and they always disappoint. The whole “trust the process” movement is bogus. This team needs to do something, and they need to do something quick while their star players are still young. I think they need to add some shooters, some more veteran guys, and maybe another star player to support Embiid and Simmons. Someone I think the 76ers should for sure consider picking up is Lou Williams. He is one of the greatest bench players of all time, has a three point shot, and can be considered a vet. I also think they need to somehow move Al Horford at some point. His prime days are over. He showed serious decline last season and struggled all around. With Doc Rivers coming in as the new head coach maybe things can change in Philly, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Miami Heat

Man oh man did this Heat team surprise and prove all the doubters wrong this season. Defeated the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals to advance to the 2020 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. There is honestly not much I think Miami needs to do other then maybe adding a new PG to the mix. They’ve got a solid bench with young guys and vets alike, and a great starting five. I also think maybe they could add another star player like Oladipo who has been linked to Miami rumors as of late, but we’ll see.

Boston Celtics

This Celtics team is truly just one star big man away from winning it all. They’ve got a great starting five with Kemba Walker, Jaylen Brown/Marcus Smart, Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum, and Daniel Theis. Now let me talk about what they need. Boston needs a big man who can rebound and score at ease. Theis is good and is one of the most underrated centers in the league IMO, but he is certainly not a scoring center and isn’t a fantastic rebounder. I think the acquisition of Myles Turner who has been linked to Celtics trade rumors as of late would be an amazing addition to the team and could lead them to their 18th banner. Picking up Hassan Whiteside or Andre Drummond in free agency would be even better, but is very unlikely. I also believe adding another veteran to the bench would be great for the team. I think bringing back a guy like Isaiah Thomas would do wonders for Boston. Even if he doesn’t get playing time, just have him be a veteran leader on the team like how Udonis Haslem is for the Heat.

Toronto Raptors

See the source image

This Toronto team is set to dismantle this offseason as it looks like Fred VanVleet, Serge Ibaka, and Marc Gasol will all be looking to sign elsewhere in free agency. It has also been rumored that they’re thinking of trying to move Kyle Lowry. I think they need to rebuild this team and give Pascal Siakam some help. Bring in maybe Montrezl Harrell as the new center or just some lowkey guys and don’t break the bank this offseason and wait till the huge 2021 free agency class. That is the more realistic option for Toronto IMO.
