(10/18) SmackDown Review

SmackDown started off with an Intercontinental Championship match between Shinsuke Nakamura (C) and Roman Reigns. The match was cut short after Baron Corbin came out and attacked Reigns to prevent him from winning the championship. Then we got a quick match between Shorty Gable and Curtis Axel, nothing to talk about. The gimmick they’re giving Gable is so stupid and I feel really bad for him. Next up was an 8 man tag team match with the New Day and Heavy Machinery vs. the Revival and Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. This was a fun match but nothing special. Following the tag match was a Miz TV segment with Bayley and Sasha Banks. Bayley has been heel for a week and I’m already over it. I’ve got a feeling that this title run is gonna be tough to watch. There really is nothing else worthy of talking about from tonight’s episode.

Overall Review 2.2/5 – Dylan

Smackdown wasn’t terrible because it had some fun decent matches but it didn’t feel like anything special either. I like that Nikki Cross became #1 contender for the Smackdown Women’s Championship, her and Bayley could put on a fantastic match together if given the proper time and story. Bayleys heel turn feels fresh and something to possibly build to at WrestleMania with a turn on Sasha. The Reigns V Nakamura match was such an obvious setup, they needed someone for team Hogan at Crown Jewel and Roman makes sense. I honestly was hopping they would give the IC title to Roman. With Brock being out most of the time Smackdown needs a dominate IC champ to be on TV all the time and I feel like they don’t want Shin in that role. Oh & one more thing Heel Roman V BabyFace Bryan at mania is going to happen I promise.

(10/11) SmackDown Review

Last night’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown kicked off with a match between WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns to decide which brand would get the first pick in the draft. It was a pretty good back and forth match that ended with “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt attacking Rollins which meant Raw got the first pick. Next up we were treated to yet another match between Baron Corbin and Shorty Gable, nothing special. After round two of the draft finished we got a great promo from Paul Heyman hyping up Lesnar before his match with Cain Velasquez at Crown Jewel, then Velasquez and Rey Mysterio came out to confront Heyman and Lesnar. Next up was a quick three on three tag team match between the New Day and the O.C. Following round four of the draft we got a Bayley heel turn and then she defeated Charlotte for the Smackdown Women’s Championship. All of these Charlotte title wins are becoming annoying and pointless. Last night’s episode was somewhat a cluster due to the draft, but we got some decent matches and a cool Bayley heel turn. Next week’s show should be interesting.

Overall Review : 3.1/5 – Dylan

Last nights show was another decent episode of Smackdown on Fox. The Fiend coming to Smackdown in the draft is kind of shocking since they want the sports like feel. The Bayley heel turn was perfectly executed but the question for me is do we keep Bayley and Sasha as heels on the same brand or do we build up a turn similar to the Kevin Owens on Chris Jericho awhile back. Speaking of KO I don’t like moving him to Monday’s but if he is contending for a universal championship soon I guess I won’t mind. Monday nights draft should be very interesting and hopefully we see a few shock call-ups or returns.
