JUSTICE LEAGUE SNYDER CUT PREVIEW AND THOUGHTS
Article written by Dylan Devine (2/14/21)
After four years of campaigning for it, we are finally getting the Justice League Snyder cut. For years DC and super hero fans hoped for a live-action Justice League movie and DC finally released one in 2017. It was a failure in the eyes of the fans and in the box office. Part of the reason the film failed is due to change in directors. Zack Snyder put together a near four hour version of the movie before a family tragedy took him away from the film. The director who took over for Snyder was Joss Whedon. Whedon’s version of the film was completely different from Snyder’s version and was very much disliked which led to fans starting the hashtag #releasethesnydercut . Well the four hour Snyder cut version of Justice League will be releasing exclusively on HBO Max on March 14th, 2021. The trailer dropped today and it looks like it’s going to be a very good film. It will also be rated R which should be very interesting.
New version of The Joker
Months ago rumors were floating around that we would see the return of Jared Leto’s Joker in the Snyder Cut. This was confirmed last week when first look photos were released of this new version of The Joker. I am glad that Jared Leto is getting a second chance as The Joker. His performance in Suicide Squad did not go over too well with fans, but I really believe that wasn’t on him. I think it simply was a very poorly written and directed movie. This new version of The Joker has a very dark/scary type of vibe to it and I can’t wait to see Leto’s performance. I don’t think he’ll be getting a crazy amount of screen time, but we will get to see enough of The Joker to make up for the Suicide Squad version.
Appearance’s from other Justice League members?
Could we see any other members of the Justice League in the Snyder cut? This is a very popular question amongst DC fans. I personally believe the answer is yes. I think the two characters that have the biggest chance at showing up are Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter. I would personally love to see Hawkman or maybe even Nightwing, but I doubt that will happen.
There will be less humor
I think the Snyder cut is going to have a very serious and dark tone. No corny humor like there was in Whedon’s version of the film. Maybe a few funny moments here and there likely from Flash and Aquaman, but I really believe we are going to see a very serious and dark tone in the Snyder cut.
We will get a DCEU Robin backstory
Zack Snyder has previously come out and said he wanted to explore Robin’s backstory and death after Batman V Superman. I think that the interactions that Batman and Joker will have in the Snyder cut may explain or give more information on Robin’s death. Maybe in the Knightmare scene? We’ll have to wait and see but I really hope they give some explanation or backstory to Robin’s death in the DCEU.
