Lakers Problems

What’s the problem with the Los Angeles Lakers?

article written by Nick Papa

The LA Lakers have been playing terrible basketball as of late winning only 4 of the last 10 games and can’t seem to play any defense. Injuries and chemistry have hurt this team big time and many things have to change for the Lakers to make the playoffs and here are some things.

The Defense has to be there.

The Lakers can’t be playing lazy on defense and especially LeBron James. He is the leader of this team and has to show it by playing hard on that end of the floor. The Lakers allow 113.5 PPG which is in the bottom half of the league.

Lonzo Ball returns

Now this isn’t something the Lakers can control but Lonzo Ball was really a big factor for them when LeBron missed time with the groin injury. His defensive intensity this season has been next to none and he looked to be showing improvements on the offensive end. Even though the stats may not show it he was playing with more of an aggression that he lacked in the past.

LeBron James

Now listen I’m not saying LeBron is the reason the Lakers are losing, but I am saying that if he wants to take this team to the playoffs he is going to have to encourage these young guys instead of constantly slandering them through the media with quotes such as “At this point, if you are still allowing distractions to affect the way you play, then this is the wrong franchise to be a part of, and you should just come in and say, ‘I can’t do this.’ Like, seriously, if you’re distracted by playoff pushes and all the stuff we’ve been talking about…” This type of talk only discourages players especially when he talks openly about it to the media. As a leader LeBron should know better then to demoralize young players.

Luke Walton

Last but certainly not least Luke Walton needs to be more consistent with rotations. The other night against the Kings, Walton barely played Lance Stephenson in 2nd Half of the game after he was playing great in the 1st. It also seems like he doesn’t get enough respect from his team.

The Lakers are currently 30-31 and 3 games out from a playoff spot in the stacked West. With only 21 games left on the schedule it will be interesting to see if they can fight their way to the 8th seed in the Western Conference.
