NFL 2018 Team Power Rankings
Written by Dylan Devine.
1. Los Angeles Rams
The Rams surprised everyone last season going 11-5 and finished as the number one team in the NFC West. This off season they made their team even better adding Corner Backs Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters, DT Ndamukong Suh, and WR Brandin Cooks. The Rams are now stacked on both sides of the ball and have the chance to dominate the NFC this season. Projected record/ 14-2.
2. Philadelphia Eagles
The 2018 Super Bowl Champions somehow managed to improve their team this off season. Philadelphia added DE Michael Bennett and DT Haloti Ngata to their defense along with giving Carson Wentz two more offensive weapons in WR Mike Wallace and TE Dallas Goedert. Projected record/ 13-3.
3. New England Patriots
This off season New England improved their defense that really struggled last season adding DT Danny Shelton, DE Adrian Clayborn, and CB Jason McCourty. They have one of the best wide receiver core’s in the league and drafting RB Sony Michel and signing Jeremy Hill really improved their ground game. This season will be no different with the Patriots dominating the AFC. Projected record/ 14-2.
4. Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota signed free agent Quarterback Kirk Cousins to an $84 million deal, added DT Sheldon Richardson, and drafted CB Mike Hughes. The Vikings managed to improve their defense which allowed the fewest points last season and with RB Dalvin Cook returning along with adding Kirk Cousins their offense is looking stacked. Projected record/ 13-3.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars went 10-6 and made it to the AFC Championship game last season which nobody expected. They had six players from their defense that made the pro bowl Jacksonville already developed an intimidating defensive unit and drafting DT Taven Bryan makes them even more intimidating. Projected record/ 13-3.
6. New Orleans Saints
New Orleans has arguably the best Running Back duo in the league with Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram along with Quarterback Drew Brees showing no signs of slowing down entering his 17th year in the NFL. Drafting DE Marcus Davenport adds another great pass rusher to their defense that already has Cameron Jordan. Projected Record/ 13-3.
7. Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta drafted Wide Receiver Calvin Ridley in the first round and he’ll now be playing alongside one of the best receiver’s of all time, Julio Jones. They have one of the best defense units in the league and will be a top 5 team in the NFC this season. Projected record/ 12-4.
8. Green Bay Packers
The Packers ranked second in the league last year for most allowed passing touchdowns and drafting Corner back’s Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson really helps out their secondary. Projected record/ 11-5.
9. Pittsburgh Steelers
This off season the Steelers really improved their secondary along with acquiring more offensive weapons and drafting QB Mason Rudolph. Their one of the teams in the AFC that can actually compete for a top spot against New England. Projected record/ 12-4
10. Carolina Panthers
Last season the Panthers lacked a solid receiver and drafting D.J Moore fills that void. Christian McCaffrey is now their starting Running Back and is going to thrive this season. Projected record/ 10-6.
11. Houston Texans
Houston doesn’t have a great offensive line, but with Deshaun Watson healthy again he has the ability to run the Texans entire offense. As long as Watson stays healthy, Houston has a great chance of having a great season. Projected record/ 10-6.
12. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers had one of the best defensive units in the league last year and drafting Safety Derwin James improves their defense even more. Projected record/ 11-5.
13. Tennessee Titans
Tennessee signed CB Malcolm Butler and RB Dion Lewis this off season. Butler is an elite player that will really help out the Titan’s secondary, and Lewis will be a great number two RB behind Derick Henry. Projected record/ 9-7.
14. San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco did nothing but get better this off season. Signing Richard Sherman adds a top five Corner Back to their secondary which was mediocre last season. With an improved defense and Jimmy Garoppolo starting at the QB position the sky is the limit for the 49ers this season. Projected record/ 10-6.
15. Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens had a great draft picking up TE Hayden Hurst and QB Lamar Jackson in the first round. Baltimore now has some solid offensive play makers so if they play to their potential there is a real chance they make the playoffs this season. Projected record/ 8-8.
16. Detroit Lions
Last season the Lions ranked last for total rushing yards but this season is gonna be much different. Detroit signed RB LeGarette Blount and drafted Kerryon Johnson in the second round so it is safe to say their ground game will improve this season. Projected record/ 10-6.
17. Kansas City Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes has a lot of offensive weapons to rely on, so it will be interesting to see how he does as the starting QB in Kansas this season. Projected record/ 10-6.
18. Oakland Raiders
Oakland had a very poor draft and still need some defensive improvement but their offense is looking just fine with the additions of WR Jordy Nelson and RB Doug Martin. Projected record/ 8-8.
19. Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks made a big mistake not drafting an offensive lineman as Russell Wilson was the most pressured QB in the league last season. Not only do they have a weak offensive line going into this season but they basically have a completely new defense with Safety Earl Thomas being the only Legion of Boom member still wearing a Seahawks uniform. Projected record/ 7-9.
20. Buffalo Bills
Drafting QB Josh Allen with the seventh pick was really the only key improvement Buffalo made this off season. Projected record/ 3-13.
21. Dallas Cowboys
Quarterback Dak Prescott doesn’t have any great weapons to target this season after losing Dez Bryant and Jason Witten. Drafting LB Leighton Vander Esch was a great decision by Dallas, but their defense still has room for improvement. Projected record/ 8-8.
22. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay did a good job this off season improving their defense and added a solid RB within Ronald Jones. The Buccaneers have some potential to play pretty well this season. Projected record/ 7-9.
23. Washington Redskins
The NFC East has some of the best running backs in the league this season and the Redskins were ranked with the leagues worst rush defense last season. Drafting Da’ron Payne should really help fix that problem. Projected record/ 6-10.
24. Chicago Bears
The Bears are really weak on both offense and defense but drafting LB Roquan Smith will be a big help to their defense. Mitchell Trubisky is entering his second season after having a solid rookie year so it will be interesting to see how he does this season. Projected record/ 5-11.
25. Denver Broncos
Von Miller and Bradley Chubb playing alongside each other is going to cause problems for opposing teams quarterbacks, but Denver still lacks a solid offense. Case Keenum could prove us wrong though and bring the Broncos back to being AFC West contenders. Projected record/ 7-9.
26. New York Giants
New York drafted a future Hall of Fame RB within Saquon Barkley but still have some problems going into this season. The Giants defense didn’t improve much this off season and is still mediocre along with QB Eli Manning coming off of a really rough 2017 season. Projected record/ 9-7.
27. Arizona Cardinals
Arizona still has room for improvement on both sides of the ball but with David Johnson healthy again and Josh Rosen as their new QB, they’ll do okay this season. Projected record/ 5-11.
28. Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals didn’t improve much this off season but if A.J Green, Tyler Eifert, and John Ross stay healthy they can have a solid year. Projected record/ 6-10.
29. Cleveland Browns
Cleveland made a lot of big moves during free agency and then drafted Baker Mayfield with the first pick. For once the Browns don’t look absolutely awful and they have the potential to win a few games. Projected record/ 5-11.
30. New York Jets
It has been quite awhile since the Jets have drafted a good QB in the first round, but drafting Sam Darnold was a great decision. Along with drafting Darnold New York added WR Terrelle Pryor and RB Thomas Rawls to their offense which will be a big help to the team. Projected record/ 6-10.
31. Miami Dolphins
Miami drafted Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to help out their weak secondary but otherwise didn’t really improve their defense that struggled last season. QB Ryan Tannehill is healthy again and has some new help on offense with WR Danny Amendola and TE Mike Gesiki. Projected record/ 4-12.
32. Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis had one of the worst offensive line’s in the league last year that allowed a league high 56 sacks last season and with Andrew Luck coming back from injury they really needed top fix that problem. Drafting G Quenton Nelson really helps out that terrible offensive line. Projected record/ 4-12.
