Patriots Defense

The New England Patriots are 8-1 going into their bye week after a tough loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Although they had a rough game against the Ravens, prior to that game they were absolutely dominating the NFL and the story of the Patriots and their success was mainly because of their defense. Going into this season a lot of people were questioning how the Patriots defense would do as they did not have a bunch of star player minus Dont’a Hightower, Kyle Van Noy, Stephon Gilmore, and Devin McCourty. They have a group of young guys and veterans that are there to do their job and play to the best of their ability and that is exactly what everyone has done this season. Lots of people consider the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or the 1985 Chicago Bears to be the greatest NFL defense ever, but the 2019 Patriots defense is the greatest NFL defense ever in my opinion. The stats of this defense truly show how good this defense really is. Over the first five games of this season the Patriots defense only allowed 34 points (6.8 per game) with none of the points scored being from the opposing offense, all points came from the opposing defense/special teams. Through the first five games Safety Devin McCourty grabbed an interception in every game, and leads the NFL in picks with five this season. They without a doubt have proven to have the best secondary in the league. Their ability to send extra rushers towards the quarterback while playing tough man coverage behind blitzes has made the so called “Boogeymen” a nightmare to deal with. They had some defensive holes get exposed against the Ravens, but other then that so far this season they have had an answer to whatever the offense has thrown at them. This defense is a big reason why the Patriots are going to win their seventh Super Bowl this season.
