NBA 2018-19 SEASON ROTY RACE
article written by Dylan Devine
1. Dallas Mavericks SG Luka Doncic
During the 2018 NBA Draft the Atlanta Hawks traded Doncic to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Dallas’s pick, Trae Young. Since that trade both players have proven to be future stars for their franchises. Doncic has quickly and easily become one of the most fun to watch and liked players in the league. As of March 15th he is currently averaging 21.0 PPG, 5.7 APG, and 7.4 RPG. His best game this season so far was against the Toronto Raptors on January 27th where he put up his first triple double with 35 points, 10 dimes, and 12 rebounds. He has a very bright future ahead of him and as of right now he has the best chance of becoming ROTY.
2. Atlanta Hawks PG Trae Young
Trae Young has been on absolute fire since the All-Star break. Young is averaging 18.3 PPG, 7.8 APG, and 3.5 RPG. He had six games in a row where put up 20+ points every game. In a tough loss to the Houston Rockets he put up a crazy stat line of 36 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and was 8-12 on three pointers. The next night he was just short of having his first ever triple double scoring 36 points again, 10 assists, and eight rebounds. On March 1st against the Chicago Bulls Young scored a season high 49 points, 16 assists, and eight rebounds. Young is certainly looking like he’s ready to make a run at Doncic’s top spot for ROTY.
