Star Wars Movie Rankings

Other then the Ewok movies and the holiday special, I am a firm believer in the statement “there is no bad Star Wars”. I love each and every one of these movies in their own unique way, but this is my rankings of all main 11 Star Wars films.

1) Revenge of the Sith (Episode III)

The Star Wars movie I have seen the most times. I seriously have seen this movie over 100 times. I got into Star Wars at the age of five years old by playing the ”Lego Star Wars” video game on the original XBOX. I was hooked. Then my dad introduced me to all of the movies. I definitely watched them out of order, but Revenge of the Sith has been my favorite Star Wars movie since the first time I watched it. Growing up as a young kid, Anakin Skywalker was my hero. I had his lightsaber, all the toys, and even a cardboard cutout standee of him in my room. I love every bit of this movie and never get tired of watching it. The opening scene, Grievous and Obi Wan’s duel, the execution of order 66, Anakin being put into the Vader suit for the first time, and most importantly The Battle of Mustafar. I can recite pretty much all of the lines in the movie. This is a Star Wars film that is going to most likely be my number one forever.

2) The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V)

Next up we have The Empire Strikes Back. A lot of the older fans have this as their number one, which I can’t disagree with. If I hadn’t have grown up around the prequel trilogy I likely would have this film as my number one as well. This is simply put just a beautifully made film from start to finish. Not a single bad scene. It shows Luke growing and training as a Jedi alongside Master Yoda, then confronting Darth Vader on Cloud City and getting his butt handed to him along with losing a hand. We also got arguably the most shocking and popular movie reveal of all time with the “Luke, I am your father” line. This provided a great arc for all of the original trilogy characters and especially for Han and Leia’s romance.

3) Return of the Jedi (Episode VI)

The final act of George Lucas’ first ”Star Wars Trilogy”. We see Luke Skywalker reunite with his crew now officially a Jedi Knight. Another movie in the original trilogy that provided great arc for it’s characters. Specifically Luke, Vader/Anakin, and even Palpatine. The final ten minutes of the movie are maybe my favorite ten minutes in all of Star Wars. Vader’s suit being burned and Anakin being released from the robot suit he was trapped in for so many years, Luke being reunited with all of his friends, the celebration of victory all over the different planets, and most importantly Luke looking over and seeing Master Yoda, Obi-Wan, and his father now known again as Anakin Skywalker all looking at him as force ghosts. Just beautiful.

4) A New Hope (Episode IV)

The movie that started it all. The technology and things this movie provided in 1977 are unreal. The story telling for this one was amazing. Showing Luke come from being just a farmboy on Tattooine, to being in the mix of the Rebel Alliance vs. the Empire and starting his journey to become a Jedi. An absolute all time classic.

5) The Rise of Skywalker (Episode IX)

I really think my opinion on this movie is unpopular, but this is just how I feel. I loved episode nine. I really did. It definitely could have been better but I really enjoyed this film. I do believe they could’ve ended it differently, but that’s a topic for another time. I am a big Ben Solo/Kylo Ren fan so seeing the redemption of Ben Solo was so much fun. I loved the final space battle where Poe gets surprised with the whole galaxy coming to aid him, loved the return of one of my favorite characters in Lando, and I think they did a good job at showing how powerful Rey really was. Also loved the scene with Han talking to Ben, although to this day I still think it should’ve been Anakin. I really don’t think this film deserves all the hate it gets.

6) Rogue One : A Star Wars Story

A beautifully made Star Wars film. Great story and another POV of the Rebel Alliance getting the plans for the death star, and that Darth Vader scene at the end of the movie was unreal.

7) The Phantom Menace (Episode I)

You’ve got to be a really true Star Wars fan to enjoy this movie. It’s definitely got it’s rough patches, but it’s also a really good installment in the Skywalker saga. Shows Anakin’s beginnings, a young Obi-Wan, we’re introduced to one of the best Jedi masters ever in Qui-Gon Jin, and we were introduced to Darth Maul and we’re given one of the best lightsaber duels ever with Duel of the Fates. Search on YouTube Dave Filoni’s thoughts on why episode I is so important and. I guarantee it will change your mind on this movie.

8) The Last Jedi (Episode VIII)

I go back and forth on this one. There are days when I like it, and days where I am like “what did I just watch?”. I think it is a beautiful film with lots of amazing shots and the cinematography was great, but the story could have been better. There is a good 30-45 minutes of the movie that I think was completely unnecessary.

9) Solo : A Star Wars Story

From what I have seen in the Star Wars community lately it seems like fans are finally coming around on this movie. There is a movement to ” Make Solo 2 happen” and I can’t agree more. I loved this movie. The casting was perfect for every character and it was just simply a very fun Star Wars movie.

10) The Force Awakens (Episode VII)

I enjoyed The Force Awakens, but like a lot of other fans and critics alike have said it really just felt like a recreation of A New Hope. For that reason I’m putting it at this spot on my list.

11) Attack of the Clones (Episode II)

This movie has it’s good moments and I don’t think it is a bad movie, it just was never for me. It felt like the whole movie was just filled with romance and all these sappy love scenes and I never have been able to thoroughly enjoy it.
