Around this time last year LeBron haters claimed that he was washed & his time as the best player in the world had finally ended. Fast forward a year later in a completely different environment LeBron James is one of two frontrunners for the NBA MVP award. In this article I will be breaking down the battle for MVP: LeBron James Vs Giannis Antetokounmpo.
LeBron James season stats in 60 games played
- 25.7 PPG
- 10.6 APG (League Leader)
- 7.9 RPG
- 1.2 SPG
LeBron James is one of the most impactful players in the NBA today and without him the Lakers might not even be a playoff team. The argument against LeBron for MVP is the presence of Anthony Davis who leads the team in Points, Rebounds, steals, & blocks. But fans don’t truly understand the impact of LeBron’s playmaking & Leadership. On the offensive side of the ball he makes his teammates better by putting his teammates in favorable positions to score. On the defensive end he leads by example with his strong on ball defense & his ability to play the passing lanes. At 35 years old he led his team to the #1 seed in a deep Western Conference. Their is absolutely no doubt that LeBron deserves to be in this seasons MVP race.
Giannis Antetokounmpo season stats in 57 games played
- 29.6 PPG
- 5.8 APG
- 13.7 RPG
- 1.2 SPG
The Reigning NBA MVP is having another miraculous season for the #1 seeded Bucks. Although his defense may have fell off slightly from last season he is still a great defender. He is 3rd in both PPG & RPG. Some fans believe that the gap between Giannis & LeBron is in the Greek Freaks favor but I don’t see it that way. The Bucks do have a better record than the Lakers but I believe they would have the same if not a very similar record if you swapped out the two. LeBron makes such an impact that he could go to any team and take them to the playoffs, basically he is a good fit anywhere he goes. Giannis has had a great season but if you put him on the Lakers they would certainly digress due to his lack of shooting & his lower tier playmaking in comparison to the King. That’s why my choice for MVP is LeBron James he’s just to good this season to pass up on.
