Who Could The Jedi Be?

Article written by Dylan Devine (11/30/20)

In the latest episode of The Mandalorian we finally got a live action Ahsoka Tano played by Rosario Dawson. What an episode it was. It felt like a movie that was giving homage to both Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars, both Star Wars animated series that have ended. In the end of the episode Tano says she cannot train Grogu *Baby Yoda*. She does give another option to Mando though. She says that he can take Grogu to the ruined Jedi temple on Tython and place him on a seeing stone on the top of the mountain where he can reach out into the force to see if another Jedi will come to look for him. Now there are only a few Jedi known to be alive during the time period we are seeing in The Mandalorian. The main known Jedi known to be alive are Luke Skywalker, Ezra Bridger, and Cal Kestis. Now there is a very SMALL possibility that Mace Windu is alive as well, but it is nowhere near confirmed. I really doubt that if he is even alive that he will be the Jedi who comes and finds Grogu as it would likely confuse the casual viewer as to how he survived the fall he endured in Revenge of the Sith. I am going to talk about the three Jedi I previously named while giving my theories and explaining why they could be the Jedi to reach out.

Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker is the one Jedi out of these three that is 110% confirmed to be alive as he was obviously in the sequel trilogy which took place years after the time period that The Mandalorian is set in. I think having Luke return would be the easiest option and most obvious choice as he is one of the most popular movie characters ever so the casual viewer would know who he is. Other then some things shown in comics and in the sequel trilogy we don’t know much about Luke’s whereabouts between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. I believe a way we could see this happen is that Luke has just come up with the idea to start his Jedi Academy and finds Grogu and will be his new mentor and teach him the ways of the Jedi. We have seen Disney de-age Star Wars characters in past films and they could do this with Luke, or they could have even gotten Sebastian Stan to play a young Luke as Stan really resembles a young Mark Hamill and has stated in the past that he would love to play Luke. It would be amazing to see Luke train Grogu just as Yoda trained Luke on Dagobah in Empire Strikes Back.

Ezra Bridger

Ezra Bridger is a young Jedi who appeared in the animated series, Star Wars Rebels. In the season finale he disappears into hyper-space with Grand Admiral Thrawn saving his friends. We don’t know his whereabouts but it is very likely he is still alive as Dave Filoni has confirmed that Thrawn is alive. There is a high possibility that Ezra will be the Jedi who comes and finds Grogu. It makes the most sense after the events of episode five. We saw a lothal cat which is related to Ezra, and Ahsoka is looking for Grand Admiral Thrawn who as I just said disappeared into hyper-space with Ezra. We could see Ezra take Grogu under his wing just as Bridger’s fallen master Kanan Jarrus did.

Cal Kestis

Cal Kestis is the least likely option IMO. Kestis is the main character in the 2019 video game, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order. Just as Grogu, he was a Padawan survivor of Order 66. I don’t have much to say about the possibility of Kestis being the Jedi who reaches out as I really don’t think it is going to be him. I am only including him because it is very likely that he is still alive during this time. I think it would definitely be cool and I would love to see Cameron Monaghan reprise the role, but I don’t see it happening. The only way I think it could happen is if Kestis is working with Luke Skywalker to start up the Jedi Academy and is helping Luke find more Jedi out in the galaxy. But I think that’s a bit too complex.
